A microsite to specifically promote North Devon has gone live on the Visit Devon website today: https://www.visitdevon.co.uk/northdevon

The microsite will feature many of the visitor highlights in North Devon – the rugged coastline overlooking the Atlantic, the sandy beaches with some of the best surfing in the world, and the characterful towns of Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe – but will also shine a light on some of the less well-discovered gems such as the Tunnel Beaches dating back to Victorian times, and the puffins of Lundy Island.

Nick White, Chairman of Visit North Devon, said, ‘We are all so excited about the launch of our new microsite – Northdevon.com – as an integrated part of Visit Devon’s website; I believe this will give our region a real edge. It’s imperative Devon has one voice when marketing our amazingly diverse destination.’

Visit Devon, the community interest company (CIC) formed in 2015 to promote Devon as a destination to domestic and international visitors, has worked closely with Visit North Devon on the project and believes that this development is a major step forward in the promotion of the county.

Simon Fishwick, Company Secretary of Visit Devon, explained, ‘Historically, Devon’s tourism industry has lacked a unified voice, which has meant that areas within the county have had to compete against each other as well as other counties in the UK. Visit Devon was established to address this, and since its inception, has worked tirelessly to promote an umbrella message of “Visit Devon and you’ll want to stay forever!”

‘But if we are to succeed in building a strong and cohesive destination brand that will benefit tourism providers across the county, we need to work closely with all of Devon’s area tourism partners as well as our members to seamlessly promote both the whole and the beautiful, brilliant and unexpected things to see and do in individual regions, in a way that is clear and compelling for visitors.

‘That is why we are investing heavily in the development of a definitive digital destination for Devon: the Visit Devon website, integrated with area microsites. With unique content provided by area tourism partners as well as our members, the site will become the expert reference point for visitors considering holidaying or working in our county.

‘This Visit North Devon microsite is the first step in achieving this goal.’

Rhys Roberts, Chairman of Visit Devon, said, ‘Visit North Devon has shown great vision and leadership in joining us on this project. Its microsite will help visitors better understand what is in North Devon, so that they can get the very most out of their stay.

‘But, equally, we believe it will deliver North Devon businesses significant benefits, giving them the opportunity to reach much bigger markets through the Visit Devon brand, which is promoted tirelessly by our experienced team at tourism events around the world as well as at home. All stakeholders have worked towards a common aim on this project and we look forward to the benefits from this initiative, not least in the hospitality economy.’

Visit Devon and Visit North Devon worked with digital marketers Ignyte and New Mind | tellUs to deliver the project.
